Subject: ABSS SIG 1st Meeting

We apologize if you receive this message more than once!

Dear colleague

the AgentLink network of excellence
<http://www.agentlink.org> has established a special interest group
(SIG) for agent based social simulation (ABSS)
<http://www.cpm.mmu.ac.uk/abss/>. This SIG is being coordinated by
Rosaria Conte and Scott Moss.

ANYONE can participate in this SIG. Costs of participation can be met
out of SIG funds for participants who are from institutions that are
members of AgentLink which is itself a network of excellence under the
Esprit Porgramme of the European Commission. (The funds are by no means
unlimited but we would expect to fund the costs of a substantial
proportion of those who are eligible and attend SIG meetings.)

For more information, see the ABSS home page at

where you will find a link to the call for participation and instructions
for joining the ABSS email discussionlist.

APRIL 21 & 22, 1999.

We see a main function of the ABSS SIG to be the establishment of
collaborative projects including applications for funding under the
Fifth Framework. Since it is now possible to combine applications for
European funding under the Fifth Framework with American-funded
applications, if may be that the SIG will have a role in facilitating
such transatlantic ventures. This could be one subject of discussion at
the SIG meeting.

The call for participation in the first meeting of the ABSS SIG in
London on the 21st and 22nd April, 1999 will be found at

We have identified four topic areas for discussion and we are inviting
SIG participants to suggest individual topics. There is likely to be
some discussion of these topics on the ABSS email list before the
meeting. Please remember, you MUST register your intention to attend the
meeting by the 15th January. There is a limit of 40 participants -- at
most two from any institution of which at most one can have any
reimbursement of expenses.

Happy Christmas, Happy New Year and best wishes to all,

rosaria conte
