The Weissmannian barrier is considered "outdated" by the biology boys (what
happened to wisdom streaks such as "natural _history_"?), just like
Lamarckian evolution (although every memeticist knows that it is the most
common kind of evolution in _our_ part of the turf). Bateson touches the
subject in his "Mind & Nature; A Necessary Unity" (Dutton, NY 1979), and
again in "Angels Fear" (Macmillan, 1987).
