HCS>Dear Tim

TP. Yes.

HCS> Because this log has all the mails, so you do not have to keep them

HCS>> >You caqn always unsubscribe and just watch the www log of the list.

TP: I'll do it stepwise. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, OK?

1. Right now, subscribers to receive every email anyone
sends in.

2. This means we all get a lot of emails. Only some are of interest to a

3. What I would like is a single archive -- which I *think* HCS is calling
a "log" but I'm not at all sure -- to which we all send our contributions.
Just those of us who have subscribed. Not everyone in the world. Just

4. Then we can access this archive and read what we want.

5. Then we can send answers to what we want.

6. But how is this different from HCS' description of the "log" on

Answer: if I want to avoid getting all the emails, I have to UNSUBSCRIBE.

Then I read the messages on the website.

Then if I want to send a message to the log (that means to everyone on, I have to RESUBSCRIBE.

This is (a) a nuisance and (b) means I get all the emails again. Every
time I want to send something to I have to RESUBSCRIBE,
send the message, and the UNSUBSCRIBE so I don't get all the emails.

7. Now look at steps 4 and 5 above. These do not involve unsubscribing
and resubscribing each time. They mean going to the website, reading,
posting something, and NOT getting all the emails.

8. It means making some changes somewhere at the end of
the system.

9. This has nothing at all to do with alt.memetics or alt.anything.else.

10. I hope that is clearer.

HCS>I am sorry but what would a usenet group do more?

TP: I have no idea. I was talking about a subscribe-only group which in
SOME WAYS is like a usenet group, but is for subscribers only. For
example, one might access it ONLY by accessing the website and signing on.
Or might have a moderator, like, to make sure that the
postings are relevant to the topic. I do not know the mechanics of how
such things are done. I do know that they can be done because I have
participated in such things at other times on other topics.

HCS> You mean that you just don't get all the mail?

TP: I get all the email.

HCS> So what you suggest is to make a alt.mem list to go with this list?

TP: No. Alt.memetics is irrelevant.

HCS> Can you define how excactly to do that?

TP: No. Alt. memetics is irrelevant.

HCS>What mail would have to be on this list, and what on that alt group?

TP: What list? I am not talking about any alt groups. Let us drop
alt.memetics in further discussions. It is irrelevant.
