Unfortunately, I know diddly-squat about Haitian history and only very little about Jamaican history. One Caribbean island for me at a time. I was actually most interested in learning about the Rasta sect in Jamaica and picked up on a little background history...maroon settlements, revolts and all that. Still don't know much about the Rastas, but reggae music is definitely a major musical influence in the States and elsewhere.
I've got a journal article here about how Rastafarianism has made an
ideological influx into Cuba. That should be interesting, but I haven't had
a chance to delve into it yet.
