HBO to show film by Stone on Mideast

LOS ANGELES - HBO and director Oliver Stone are going to take a second shot. Last month, HBO shelved Stone's potentially controversial documentary on Cuban leader Fidel Castro, but on June 5, the cable network will air Stone's latest nonfiction effort, ''Persona Non Grata.''

Being shown as part of HBO's ''America Undercover'' series, ''Persona Non Grata'' seems likely to stir things up just as much as the Castro film. The documentary, shot in March 2002 in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Ramallah, tackles the Middle East conflict head-on.

The film features interviews with former Israeli prime ministers Benjamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, and Shimon Peres as well as talks with masked members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, Hamas spokesman Hasan Yosef, and several European diplomats. Stone and his crew attempted to interview Yasser Arafat, but were instead caught up in the violence that followed an attack by a Palestinian bomber in what has been called the Passover Massacre.

Stone directed with Vincent Maraval and Alvaro Longoria executive producing.
