SDML release information

The current release of SDML is 4.1. If you want to install this release, either to upgrade from a previous release or to use SDML for the first time, click here.

A tutorial is now available. Click here for details.

The current release of SDML has the option of a Windows Explorer type user interface. A description of model building using this interface is available here.

If you are subscribed to the SDML-users mailing list, you will be informed of new releases, patches or changes to the on-line documentation. This is also the best place to make any suggestions for improvements to SDML.

Obtaining and installing patches

One of the features of SDML is the release browser, which enables users to view lists of new and modified features and known bugs, and to obtain relatively minor patches to SDML (bug fixes and enhancements). The release browser can be opened by choosing the option "open release browser" from the "File" menu of the SDML launcher.

The most important file used by the release browser is the "patches file", which contains all information about bugs, fixes and enhancements for the current release. If you want to install (file in) any new patches that have been developed, you first need to download the patches file by clicking here. Ensure that you save it with the same name ("sdml4-1.pat") in the "extras" subdirectory of your SDML installation directory, so that the release browser can find it. After fetching the file, you will need to install the patches you require into your SDML image(s), using the release browser's "file in" menu options.

Some of the information that can be accessed from the release browser can also be accessed directly from here. To find out what's changed since the previous release, click here. If you want to find out about previous releases, click here. Lists of known bugs, fixes and enhancements for the current release will also be accessible from this page soon.

If you think you have found a bug in SDML, or if you have any other queries or problems, please contact Steve Wallis.

Obtaining and reading on-line documentation

A new feature of SDML is the "help file" which contains some documentation that can be read from within SDML. The documentation may be updated between releases of SDML, in which case a new version of the help file is generated. The current version of the help file can be downloaded by clicking here. Ensure that you save it with the same name ("sdml4-1.hlp") in the "extras" subdirectory of your SDML installation directory.

Most browsers in SDML have a "Help" pull-down menu; the options on these menus can be used to read the on-line documentation.

Using anonymous ftp

The easiest way to obtain the files containing patches and on-line documentation is to click on the relevant links above. These, and the other files which the release browser reads, are also obtainable via anonymous ftp from the directory sdml.cfpm.org/extras.
