This release of SDML is based on a newer release of the VisualWorks Smalltalk programming language - VisualWorks 5i.2 Non-Commercial. This release of VisualWorks is available for Linux, which the older release (2.5.2) was not. The VisualWorks 5i.2 Non-Commercial object engine (virtual machine) can be downloaded directly from the Centre for Policy Modelling website, or alternatively from the suppliers (now Cincom Systems) at: http://www.cincom.com/smalltalk/vwdownload.asp It is thus no longer necessary to mail us at the Centre for Policy Modelling for the object engine; this release also abandons the necessity for an initialization (".ini") file, so everything required to run SDML can now be downloaded from the web or by anonymous ftp. Other changes in this release of SDML (due to underlying VisualWorks) are as follows: a) Simulations and database experimentations can now be interrupted with Control-Y instead of Control-C. This is because Control-C is now used for copying text (with Control-X to cut and Control-V to paste), in common with most Windows applications. b) The middle and right mouse buttons are swapped (when SDML is used with a three-button mouse), so that the right button is used for pane-specific menus and the middle mouse button is used for a general window menu. This also brings SDML into line with other applications.
