I am not trying to establish anything for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP
was just a potential example of something that might bear some relation to
the dynamics that I am talking about. I really don't know very much about
NLP. But as far as Lakoff and Johnson's stuff on cognitive metaphor, there
is empirical confirmation for the things that they are talking about. I
believe that was probably the impetus for them writing their book "Philosophy
in the Flesh," published this year. Those studies are cited extensively in
that book. Their earlier book "Metaphors We Live By" included many of the
ideas found in "Philosophy . . .," but before their was any reliable
empirical confirmation for them. I don't think that Lakoff and Johnson had
NLP in mind in their work. I was only suggesting that it might be related.
So I don't think that it is necessary to provide any proof for NLP, to make
the dynamics that I am suggesting any more plausible.
