Derek:

The point is not that anything has been introduced into memetics from
outside, but that these conclusions are implicit in Dennett's work (rightly
or wrongly). What is Dennettian is that something has emerged from the
memetic stance which, coincidentally, happens to resemble something that has
already emerged in certain eastern philosophies. So nothing has been
introduced. It was there all along.
