My paper in Sociological Research Online, summarises and reviews Runciman's
work, but his own summary can be found at

It is worth taking a look at - although it might be difficult for
memeticists to understand (in memetic parlance his ideas are not new) he is
causing all sorts of waves in academic social science. Fun stuff.
