The only published bit is in Biochemical Education (1998) 26, 121-124,
where we simply look at lecture attendance behaviour. We're currently
looking into other aspects of learning behaviour, such as library
usage, how weekends are spent, note taking etc.
We want to see if students imitate, copy or learn these behaviours from
one another. We have shown that lecture attendance is 'selected' in
that for some sub-groups of students, it contributes to their exam
success, and thus their tendency to remain in the system.
The underlying thinking is variation, imitation and selection acting on
behaviour.
However it's a real can of worms, and the more I get into it, the more
I realise how difficult this sort of thing is!!!
