The ones I have in mind will be explicitly concerned with the
'self-evolution' of a science of memetic engineering, and in that
sense, they will be 'self-aware' and 'self-designing'. And if they
'work' as intended, they _will_ be contagious (the more so, the
better). So if all goes well, 'watch out'! ;)
