Subject: RE: Kinetic versus Potential of Memes
Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 12:18:58 +0100
The way I see it, it takes effort (kinetic energy) to transcribe an idea =
(meme) on paper. While in this 'state', the meme is only a =
potential--the transfer to another person is 'waiting' to take place.
When another person reads it (uses their own effort--producing the =
required energy to understand the meme), the meme turns from potential =
to kinetic once again. The meme itself is not 'alive', it takes energy =
on both sides of the transmission in order for the transfer to work. The =
people (systems) are what give life to memes.
