Why continue thinking of memes as ghosts with life cycles?

Maybe this poem will help :)

Genes in nuclei
stabilize behavior in and of a cell,
producing proteins
which eventually produce an organized set of cells
which we call a body (gene vehicle/interactor)

Memes in brains
stabilize behavior in and of a body,
producing artifacts
which eventually produce an organized set of bodies
which we call a culture (meme vehicle/interactor)
