Tim Rhodes asked
>Has anyone done any actual experiments to calculate the transmission rat=
es
of memes in a give meme-sphere (culture)?<
The meme meme itself took about 15 years to begin to move and probably 20=
to get moderately common. I don't know its doubling rate at present.
[Dawkins S Gene Edition 2 has some data and uses the citation tracking
approach]
The Business Process Re-engineering meme took about 4 years to dominate i=
ts
meme space, displacing all other alternatives [see Price and Shaw 1996
links available from my home page or Hans' memetics page]
There is much more to be done along the lines you and Ken McE suggest. I
hope soon to have a PhD student and some grants to start doing exactly
that.
