Subject: URGENT: the Exponential Meme
The number of memetics messages in my In Box is growing exponentially.
Soon they will take over dca.net, the net provider my wife and I use, and
then the entire East Coast of the United States.
Fellow memeticists, something must be done!
I hear an objection -- Yes?
"Human agency can do nothing against the memes!"
In that case, the memes of this listserve will take over the world. So,
since I am not a Full-Fledged Memeticist, and deny that memes have any
power except that which we give them, I suggest that
a. we consider a newsgroup with a moderator and a subscribe-only policy,
so that we individually each do not receive an exponentially growing number
of emails from the Memes. Instead, let us place all the memes into *one*
heap, and retrieve them when and if they are interesting. I assume that
somebody can arrange the software for doing such a thing.
b. we distill some of these discussions for Hans-Cees, so he gets stuff
for JOM.
This will allow different people to specialize to their heart's content
without denying anyone the chance to join in (which, IMO, makes private
exchange of emails between participants less than desirable). It will also
let people who feel *excluded* from certain threads join others more to
their liking.
Otherwise, fellow memeticists, we shall watch a real-time test of ideas so
far discussed only theoretically -- do we have free will or do the memes
control us?
